The route and journey time
From central Brighton your driver heads north on the A23 past Preston Park and Patcham, joins the M23 near Pease Pottage and comes off at junction 9 for the airport. Outside rush hour it’s 35 to 45 minutes. On summer Saturdays, when the A23 fills with visitors heading to the coast, or during weekday peaks around Crawley, allow up to 50 minutes.

Brighton to Gatwick: taxi or train?
We’ll be honest: Brighton has a very good train service to Gatwick, with direct Thameslink and Southern trains taking around 25 to 35 minutes. If you’re travelling alone with a carry-on and live near Brighton station, the train is hard to beat.

Tips for the Brighton to Gatwick run
The A23 is usually quick, but there are a couple of pinch points: the Patcham interchange at the top of the city when schools are in, and the approach to Crawley at junction 10 of the M23 in the evening peak.
