From central London, a saloon to Harwich International Port is typically around £130, and an estate around £140. From Stansted, around 50 miles away along the A120, it’s around £95. From Heathrow and Gatwick, which are well over 100 miles away, expect £175–£185 for a saloon – still a straightforward door-to-door journey compared with two trains and a change in London. From Colchester, fares are around £50.

Journey times to Harwich

The A12 can be slow around Chelmsford and Colchester at peak times, and roadworks are common. We’ll recommend a pickup time that allows for this and your check-in deadline.

Harwich International station is right next to the port, and trains run from London Liverpool Street with a change at Manningtree. That works for a solo traveller with light luggage. For families, groups, cruise passengers and anyone flying in to Stansted or Heathrow, a door-to-port taxi avoids the changes and the luggage handling – and one fare for the whole car often compares well with several rail tickets.

At the port: what to expect

Harwich International is a compact port. The passenger terminal building handles foot-passenger check-in for the ferries, while cruise passengers are directed to the cruise berth facilities. Drop-off and pickup areas are close to the entrances, and the railway station is a short walk away. On busy cruise days, traffic management may be in place at the port entrance – your driver will follow the directions of port staff to get you as close as possible.

When you’re collected, we’ll agree a meeting point by text – usually just outside the passenger terminal. Keep your phone on when you disembark so your driver can reach you.
