Route and journey time
Your driver leaves Cambridge via the M11 south to the M25 at junction 27, then anticlockwise round the northern and western M25 to junction 14 or 15 for Heathrow. That’s around 80 miles. Outside peak hours it takes 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes; during the weekday rush, the stretch of M25 between junctions 16 and 14 can add time, so allow up to two hours. We’ll recommend a pickup time with your flight in mind.
Cambridge to Heathrow: taxi, train or coach?
Trains from Cambridge to Heathrow involve travelling into King’s Cross or Liverpool Street and crossing London to the Elizabeth line, Piccadilly line or Heathrow Express – typically two hours or more, with changes. Coaches run direct but take around two and a half to three hours. For a solo traveller with light luggage, those can work. For families, groups, early flights or anyone carrying a lot – including students moving at the start or end of term – a taxi is far simpler, and one fixed fare shared between several people is often competitive.

Tips for the Cambridge to Heathrow journey
The M11 is usually free-flowing, but the M25 between junctions 16 and 14 is one of the busiest stretches of road in Britain. For morning flights, leaving early pays off. At the start and end of university terms, demand for cars is high, so book as soon as you know your travel dates. If you’re sending a car to collect an overseas visitor, include their name exactly as it appears on their passport, their flight number, and a contact number – your driver will wait with a name board and text them on landing.
