Southampton to Heathrow Taxi

Southampton and Heathrow are linked by one of the busiest transfer routes in the South – people from Hampshire flying long-haul, and cruise passengers flying into Heathrow to join a ship at the docks. A Southampton to Heathrow taxi covers the 67 miles via the M3 and M25 in about an hour and a quarter, door to terminal, at a fixed price agreed before you travel. The same goes for the return trip from Heathrow to Southampton.

Route and journey time

From Southampton, your driver takes the M3 north past Winchester, Basingstoke and Camberley to the M25 at junction 12, then a short hop to junction 14 for Terminals 4 and 5 or junction 15 for Terminals 2 and 3. It’s around 67 miles and typically takes 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes. The M3 around Basingstoke and the M25 near Heathrow can be slow at weekday peaks, so we’ll allow up to 1 hour 35 minutes.

Heathrow to Southampton taxi

This is one of our most popular journeys, particularly for cruise passengers. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall at your Heathrow terminal with a name board, loads your luggage and takes you straight to your Southampton address – or directly to your cruise terminal. Taxi vs train or coach

By rail, you’d take a train from Southampton Central towards London, change at Woking for the coach link to Heathrow, or continue into Waterloo and cross London. Direct coaches run too, typically taking around one and three-quarter hours. Both are fine for a solo traveller. For couples, families, cruise passengers with big suitcases and anyone on an early flight, a direct taxi is simpler – and one fixed fare shared between several people is often good value.

Tips for the Southampton and Heathrow journey

The M3 is usually free-flowing, but roadworks near Basingstoke and the M25 junction 12 interchange can add time. If you’re coming off a cruise and flying home from Heathrow on the same day, allow at least five hours between your expected disembarkation and your flight – ships sometimes dock late, and disembarkation by deck can take a while. Coming the other way, if your flight lands early in the morning and your ship’s boarding window isn’t until the afternoon, your driver can recommend somewhere to stop for breakfast on the way.
