Route and journey time
From Portsmouth, your driver heads north on the M275 and A3(M), then follows the A3 through Petersfield, Hindhead and past Guildford to the M25 at junction 10. From there it’s a short run anticlockwise to junction 14 or 15 for Heathrow. That’s around 72 miles, usually taking 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes. The A3 around Guildford and the M25 between junctions 10 and 12 are the most likely hold-ups, so at peak times we allow up to 1 hour 45 minutes.

By rail, you’d take a train from Portsmouth towards London, change at Woking for the coach link to Heathrow, or go into Waterloo and cross the city – around two hours with at least one change. Direct coaches take around two to two and a half hours.
